ADNOC Announces Major $6.2 Billion Investment in Umm Shaif Gas Cap Project
The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has officially greenlit a massive $6.2 billion (Dh22.6 billion) investment into the Umm Shaif Gas Cap project. This strategic initiative is designed to unlock approximately 600 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day, a volume that accounts for roughly 10 percent of the UAE's total daily domestic consumption. By tapping into these reserves, the UAE aims to bolster its energy security, provide the necessary power for its expanding industrial and AI sectors, and significantly grow its presence in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market.
To execute this large-scale endeavor, ADNOC has partnered with major global players, including TotalEnergies, Eni, and the China National Petroleum Corporation. As part of the project’s development, the energy giant has already awarded Dh18.8 billion in engineering, procurement, and construction contracts to various international and local consortia. This investment aligns with ADNOC's broader vision to capitalize on the UAE's position as a nation with the seventh-largest gas reserves in the world, while supporting its target to market 47 million tons of LNG annually by 2035.
