Emirates Road Expansion Moves Ahead of Schedule to Slash Traffic Congestion

Tue, Jul 21, 2026(45d ago)UAE

The Dh750-million upgrade to the Emirates Road is gaining significant momentum, with construction currently surpassing the 30 percent completion mark—well ahead of the initial timeline. Managed by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, this ambitious project aims to ease daily commutes for thousands of motorists by expanding the road from three to six lanes in each direction across an 11-kilometre stretch. Once finished, the expansion is expected to boost road capacity by 9,000 vehicles and reduce overall travel times by as much as 65 percent.

Aisha Al Zaabi, a key official from the Ministry, confirmed that the massive undertaking involves building 14 bridges and five tunnels to streamline traffic flow at the critical intersection with Al Ain Road. Beyond the technical advancements, the Ministry has placed a strong emphasis on worker safety, strictly enforcing heat stress prevention policies to protect laborers during the UAE's hot summer months. As a centerpiece of the country’s Dh170 billion infrastructure investment strategy, the project serves as a vital step in modernizing the federal road network and providing sustainable, long-term traffic solutions leading up to 2030.
