UAE Launches Major Initiative to Overhaul National Statistical Framework

Thu, Jul 23, 2026(1d ago)UAE

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has officially greenlit a transformative national programme designed to modernize the UAE’s statistical infrastructure, featuring a complete reassessment of the country’s GDP calculation methods. By aligning with the United Nations System of National Accounts, this initiative aims to provide a more precise and transparent reflection of the UAE's evolving economic landscape. The government noted that this update is essential to capture the rapid diversification of the economy, particularly the significant gains made in artificial intelligence, technology, digital services, and the broader non-oil sectors.

This strategic overhaul is intended to improve the reliability and accuracy of official data, ensuring it meets the highest global standards. By strengthening the foundation of economic reporting, the UAE seeks to empower policymakers with better insights, heighten investor confidence, and reinforce its reputation as a leading global economic hub. With the non-oil sector acting as a primary driver of growth—contributing significantly to a total GDP of Dh1.9 trillion in 2025—this initiative ensures that the nation’s economic narrative keeps pace with its fast-moving development goals and future projections.
