The UAE’s Jaywan card: Everything you need to know about the new national payment scheme

Fri, Jul 24, 2026(14h ago)UAE

The UAE has officially rolled out the Jaywan card, a domestic payment system managed by Al Etihad Payments—a subsidiary of the Central Bank—designed to streamline everyday financial transactions for residents. Functioning much like a standard debit or prepaid card, Jaywan is built for versatility, allowing users to handle everything from routine grocery shopping and utility payments to online transactions and ATM withdrawals. Beyond its domestic utility, the card is being integrated into modern payment ecosystems, with plans to support major digital wallets like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay, while utilizing robust security protocols such as EMV chip technology and 3D Secure authentication to keep user data safe.

What makes Jaywan particularly attractive is its tiered benefits, especially for premium cardholders who gain access to perks like airport lounges, comprehensive travel insurance, and exclusive discounts through partnerships with brands like Careem+ and the Entertainer. Although the rollout is in its early stages, the card is already designed for global reach, with plans for acceptance in over 100 countries. Currently, eleven major financial institutions—including Emirates NBD, ADCB, and FAB—are authorized to issue these cards, with more banks and fintech partners expected to join the network soon. As the system continues to expand, Jaywan is set to become a primary, all-in-one financial tool that simplifies local spending while providing significant value for international travelers.
