Ali-Mansur Valiyev: The UAE Student Who Secured Historic Economics Olympiad Gold

Fri, Jul 24, 2026(45d ago)UAE

Ali-Mansur Valiyev, a 17-year-old student at Dubai College, has made history by becoming the first representative from the UAE to win an individual gold medal at the International Economics Olympiad. His journey began with a childhood fascination for global news and business, which evolved into a formal academic pursuit in Grade 9. After navigating a grueling two-year selection process, which included thousands of applicants and intense online training camps, Valiyev earned his spot on the national team. The competition itself was a test of endurance and intellect, requiring him to analyze complex issues like artificial intelligence and perform a high-pressure business consulting challenge in under 24 hours.

Beyond his academic achievements, Valiyev is deeply committed to social impact through his initiative, EcoEducation, which provides financial literacy and sustainability resources to over 10,000 underserved students in Central Asia. By conducting research on topics ranging from AI-driven public policy to healthcare accessibility, he aims to bridge the gap between economic theory and practical human improvement. As he looks toward university studies in the UK or the US, Valiyev hopes to merge economics and computer science to build meaningful solutions for real-world problems, proving that his gold medal is just the start of his contributions to the global community.
