Abu Dhabi Police Issue Stern Warning Over Unattended Vehicles
Abu Dhabi Police have issued a formal reminder to motorists that leaving a vehicle’s engine running while unattended can result in a Dh500 fine. Whether you are quickly popping into a store, stopping at an ATM, or heading inside for prayers, officers stress that it is crucial to switch off the ignition and secure your car. Beyond the risk of vehicle theft, leaving a car idling creates unnecessary safety hazards, including the potential for engine fires.
Furthermore, authorities are highlighting the extreme dangers of leaving children inside a running vehicle, even for a brief moment. Doing so is not only considered a major safety oversight but is also classified as a serious criminal offense under UAE law, which can lead to significant fines and even imprisonment. To stay safe and avoid legal repercussions, drivers are urged to always remove their keys and lock their doors whenever stepping away from their vehicles, regardless of the duration.
