What to Do If You Fall Victim to a Bank Scam in the UAE

Sun, Jul 26, 2026(3h ago)UAE

If you discover unauthorized transactions on your UAE bank account, it is important to understand that you are protected by robust legal frameworks, including the UAE Cybercrime Law and Central Bank regulations. Under Federal Decree Law No. 34 of 2021, hacking, cloning, or illicitly using e-payment instruments are serious crimes punishable by heavy fines and imprisonment. Furthermore, the Central Bank’s Consumer Protection Regulations mandate that financial institutions maintain advanced cybersecurity systems and actively educate customers on preventing financial fraud.

In many cases, banks are legally obligated to compensate customers for losses resulting from cyber-attacks or data misuse. However, this protection is not absolute; if a bank can prove that a customer’s loss was the result of their own gross negligence or fraudulent behavior, the institution may not be held liable. To secure a resolution, you should file a formal complaint with your bank and support it with a police report and documented evidence of the unauthorized activity. If the bank fails to address your concerns adequately, you have the right to escalate the matter to the Central Bank of the UAE for a formal investigation.
