Unpredictable Storms Bring Rain and Hail to UAE

Mon, Aug 10, 2026(1h ago)UAE

The UAE experienced another round of volatile weather this Sunday, August 9, as intense thunderstorms and hail swept through regions like Al Ain. Despite the ongoing summer heat, which has seen temperatures climb to a staggering 50°C, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued orange and yellow weather alerts. These warnings, which remain in effect until late Sunday night, cover southern Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Fujairah, cautioning residents about the formation of convective clouds and potential hazards on the road. Viral footage circulating online captures the dramatic shift in weather, showing reduced visibility on the Dubai-Al Ain highway and camels seeking shelter from the sudden downpours.

This unstable weather pattern extends beyond the UAE’s borders, with Oman issuing flash flood warnings near the Hajar mountains and Saudi Arabia bracing for strong winds, dust storms, and hail. For UAE residents, however, the rain offers a brief respite from the sweltering heat. Meteorologists suggest that these unsettled conditions may continue for several more days, providing a prelude to the seasonal shift. Experts anticipate the rise of the Suhail star on August 24, which traditionally signals the end of the peak summer intensity and initiates a 40-day transition period toward more moderate, cooler temperatures.
