UAE Demands Iraqi Action Following Drone Strike on Barakah Nuclear Plant
The United Arab Emirates has formally called upon the Iraqi government to take immediate, unconditional steps to prevent hostile activities launched from its borders. This demand follows a recent security breach at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, where investigations confirmed that drones targeting the facility originated from within Iraq. While the attack on May 17 resulted in a fire at an external electrical generator, officials confirmed that there were no injuries and that the plant’s nuclear safety and radiation levels remained entirely unaffected.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the strike as a blatant violation of sovereignty and international law, urging Iraq to play a more proactive role in maintaining regional stability. By targeting critical civilian infrastructure, these actions breach the United Nations Charter and international humanitarian standards. Consequently, the UAE is pressing Iraqi authorities to act decisively and responsibly to ensure such incursions do not occur again, emphasizing that Iraq must uphold its duty as a reliable partner in protecting the security of the Gulf region.
