A Heroic Sacrifice: Egyptian Teen Loses Life After Saving Six Swimmers

Tue, Aug 11, 2026(3h ago)UAE

The Egyptian community is mourning the tragic loss of 18-year-old Ziad Mohamed Ahmed Mahmoud, who died after a selfless act of bravery at Alexandria’s Al-Bitash beach. Witnessing six individuals struggling against dangerous currents, Ziad rushed into the sea and managed to ferry every one of them to safety. Sadly, the exertion and the force of the powerful waves proved too much; after successfully rescuing the group, Ziad was pulled further out into the deep water and tragically drowned before he could reach the shore himself.

In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, local authorities have issued urgent warnings regarding the dangers of swimming at unauthorized or closed beaches. The Al-Dekhaila police confirmed that the beach in question had been deemed unsuitable for swimming by the Central Administration for Tourism and Resorts. Officials are now calling on the public to strictly adhere to safety protocols, advising against entering prohibited waters and emphasizing that untrained individuals should avoid attempting high-risk water rescues, as these situations often lead to further loss of life.
