UAE Experiences Surprise Rainfall Amidst Summer Heatwave

Thu, Aug 13, 2026(3h ago)UAE

Parts of the United Arab Emirates saw significant rainfall on Wednesday, August 12, as the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued orange and yellow weather alerts. The sudden downpours, particularly visible in areas like Al Ain, have brought a temporary reprieve from the relentless summer heat that has recently climbed toward 50°C. Despite the cooling effect, officials have urged the public to remain vigilant, as the unstable weather is expected to persist throughout the coming week.

Meteorologists suggest that this unusual summer rain is linked to the ongoing El Niño phenomenon, which is currently shifting global weather patterns and increasing atmospheric moisture levels across the region. In response to the hazardous conditions, authorities have advised residents to steer clear of valleys, wadis, and coastal areas, while drivers are encouraged to follow reduced speed limits and stay alert for low visibility. Similar weather systems are also impacting neighboring countries, with both Oman and Saudi Arabia issuing warnings for heavy rain, hail, and potential flash flooding.
