Early on August 13, 2026, the skies over the UAE played host to a spectacular astronomical event as the UAE Meteor and Fireball Monitoring Network captured over 800 images of meteors. Operated by the International Astronomy Centre, the network utilizes three specialized stations in the Abu Dhabi desert, each equipped with high-sensitivity cameras capable of spotting even the faintest celestial movements. Analysis of the gathered data confirmed that 198 of these meteors belonged to the famous Perseid shower, with the most brilliant fireball appearing at 2:41 am, shining with a magnitude of -8.5—a brightness comparable to a half-full moon.

Beyond simply documenting these lights, the network successfully mapped the trajectories of 265 individual meteors, providing valuable insights into the orbital patterns of space dust as it enters our atmosphere. This information is shared globally through a collaborative effort involving international partners and NASA, helping researchers build a more comprehensive understanding of these cosmic visitors. The observation, which spanned from late evening until dawn, was also mirrored in neighboring Oman, where 332 Perseid meteors were logged, contributing to a broader regional and global effort to record and study significant astronomical phenomena.
