Dubai Court Orders Dh4.7 Million Payout in Major Gold and Crypto Fraud Case

Sat, Aug 15, 2026(45d ago)UAE

A Dubai investor who was defrauded of six kilograms of gold and significant cryptocurrency assets has secured a major legal victory. Following a successful criminal prosecution for breach of trust, the Dubai Civil Court has ordered the perpetrator to pay a total of Dh4.7 million. This sum covers the Dh4.4 million value of the stolen assets, along with an additional Dh300,000 in damages for the financial harm caused by the incident.

The civil ruling builds upon a prior criminal conviction that saw the defendant sentenced to three years in prison, followed by deportation from the UAE. Because the criminal court had already established the defendant's guilt, the civil proceedings focused exclusively on calculating the appropriate financial restitution and compensation. Beyond the primary award, the court also mandated that the defendant cover legal interest, court fees, and associated expenses, underscoring the legal principle that criminal findings are binding when determining civil liabilities.
