Comprehensive Support for Organ Donors in the UAE
The UAE has introduced a robust support framework under Ministerial Decision No. 91 of 2026 to encourage and honor those who choose to donate organs. This initiative provides extensive coverage for living donors, including full medical and insurance support for all tests, surgeries, and long-term recovery monitoring. Beyond clinical care, the government assists with travel and accommodation expenses for both donors and their companions, and even offers support during the recovery period, such as help with work absences or home-care services.
For those who choose to donate after death, the UAE provides families with psychological and social assistance, alongside formal recognition through medals, certificates, and tributes. Furthermore, the program incentivizes participation by offering priority status for transplant waitlists to donors and their close relatives, provided they meet specific medical criteria assessed by health authorities. By integrating these comprehensive care measures, the Ministry of Health and Prevention aims to protect donors throughout their journey and celebrate their life-saving contributions to the community.
