Abu Dhabi Bolsters Environmental Protections with New Biodiversity Resolution

Sun, Aug 16, 2026(3h ago)UAE

Abu Dhabi has introduced a significant new resolution aimed at fortifying the protection of its natural ecosystems and native wildlife. Issued by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), this directive seeks to strike a delicate balance between ambitious urban development and essential environmental conservation. By establishing a comprehensive framework for both terrestrial and marine habitats, the resolution prioritizes the restoration of degraded areas and the long-term sustainability of local species, ensuring that the emirate's natural heritage is preserved for future generations.

The legislation applies to a wide range of native and migratory species, mandating strict environmental protocols for activities that could potentially disrupt these fragile ecosystems. Beyond designated protected zones, the resolution also encompasses critical biodiversity areas that exist outside of traditional reserves. To ensure success, the EAD is urging both the public and private sectors to align with these new procedures, emphasizing that collective cooperation is vital for the health of Abu Dhabi’s environment. This proactive measure reflects the emirate’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its legal framework for nature conservation and ecological restoration.
