UAE Extends Support to Indonesia Following Devastating Earthquake

Sun, Aug 16, 2026(3h ago)UAE

The United Arab Emirates has officially conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Indonesia following a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake that devastated the eastern part of the country this past Saturday. Through an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep sympathy for the families grieving their lost loved ones and wished a swift recovery for those injured in the disaster. The nation stands in solidarity with Indonesia as the country grapples with the significant loss of life and widespread destruction caused by the seismic event and its subsequent aftershocks.

Emergency response efforts are currently facing major challenges, as landslides triggered by the tremors have cut off access to Nagekeo, the area nearest to the epicenter, severely hindering communication and rescue operations. Local survivors have described the terrifying intensity of the quake, noting the urgent scramble for safety as homes were rattled by the massive shockwaves. With the death toll currently reported at 47 and dozens of aftershocks continuing to impact the region, authorities are working around the clock to clear debris and reach the most isolated communities in urgent need of assistance.
