Emirates NBD Paves the Way for UAE’s Green Transition
Emirates NBD has officially introduced the UAE’s inaugural Transition Finance Framework, a strategic initiative designed to assist corporate and institutional clients in navigating their journey toward lower-carbon operations. Recognizing that many businesses in high-emission sectors—such as manufacturing, energy, and transport—are making genuine efforts to improve their sustainability despite not yet meeting strict "green" criteria, this framework provides a clear pathway for funding. By offering specific guidance on eligible investments in energy efficiency and clean technology, the bank is helping companies bridge the gap between their current practices and a more sustainable, resilient future.
Developed in alignment with international standards like the ICMA Climate Transition Finance Handbook and reviewed by DNV Assurance, this framework is a core pillar of the bank’s broader commitment to sustainability. This initiative directly supports Emirates NBD’s ambitious goal of delivering $30 billion in sustainable and transition finance by 2030, while simultaneously bolstering the UAE Banking Federation’s wider vision for the nation’s green economy. By providing a transparent and consistent methodology for evaluating transition activities, Emirates NBD is ensuring that capital is effectively channeled toward meaningful decarbonization and industrial transformation across the region.
