Severe Consequences for Wrong-Way Driving in Abu Dhabi

Mon, Aug 17, 2026(1h ago)UAE

An Abu Dhabi motorist has faced significant legal repercussions after being caught driving against the flow of traffic. The local authorities handed down a strict sentence, which includes a six-month jail term and a substantial fine of Dh100,000. In addition to these penalties, the court ordered the immediate confiscation of the driver's vehicle as a measure to discourage such dangerous behavior on public roads.

Beyond the prison time and financial penalty, the driver will face long-term restrictions on their ability to operate a vehicle. Officials have suspended the individual’s driving license for a period of three years, effectively barring them from the road. This ruling serves as a stern warning from Abu Dhabi officials regarding the importance of traffic safety and the severe consequences that follow those who recklessly endanger others by driving in the wrong direction.
