Dubai’s RTA Creates Cooling Zones for Delivery Riders
Delivery riders in Dubai are finding much-needed relief from the sweltering heat thanks to a new initiative by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). By installing dedicated seating areas at various Metro stations and bus stops, authorities have provided riders with a reliable place to cool down between orders. For workers like Shahnawaz Khan and Gopal Shankar, these spots are a game-changer, removing the stress of searching for a place to rest during the long, humid afternoons. Many riders have noted that the initiative has not only improved their comfort but has also fostered a sense of respect and awareness among the general public.
The response from both the riders and the community has been overwhelmingly positive. Interestingly, many commuters have become so considerate that they leave these marked seats open for riders even when they are not officially occupied. Beyond this social kindness, the infrastructure expansion is significant; the RTA has increased the number of these temporary rest areas to 23 locations across the city, including key hubs like BurJuman and Ibn Battuta. These stations, which offer a brief respite in air-conditioned comfort, are proving to be a vital support system for those navigating the city's demanding delivery landscape during the peak of summer.
