UAE weather: Foggy mornings and cooling temperatures ahead

Thu, Aug 20, 2026(12h ago)UAE

Residents across the UAE faced another foggy start to their Thursday, as the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued red and yellow alerts due to visibility dropping below 1,000 meters in several areas. While the morning mist caused potential delays for commuters, the weather is expected to remain fair to partly cloudy throughout the day. By the afternoon, some eastern regions may see convective cloud formations, adding a bit of variety to the typically clear skies.

Looking ahead, a shift in weather patterns is expected to bring some relief from the summer heat. Meteorologists have indicated that fresh north-westerly winds will move in, potentially lowering temperatures by 4 to 5°C starting today. In Dubai, temperatures are set to peak at 39°C, while Abu Dhabi will see highs of 41°C. As the day progresses, coastal areas may become increasingly humid, with a continued chance of mist or fog rolling in again by Friday morning. Winds are expected to remain light to moderate, though gusts could stir up dust in western parts of the country.
