Uber Integrates Baidu’s Autonomous Apollo Go Taxis into Dubai Fleet
Dubai’s vision for futuristic public transport has hit a new milestone as Uber officially integrates Baidu’s fully driverless Apollo Go vehicles into its platform. While the service previously operated through a standalone app in partnership with the Dubai Taxi Company, this new collaboration—powered by fleet operator New Horizon Luxury Transport—marks the beginning of a long-term strategy to deploy thousands of robotaxis globally. Starting August 20, users booking an UberX or Uber Comfort in select Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah neighborhoods may find themselves matched with a high-tech Apollo Go RT6 vehicle, or they can opt-in manually by selecting the new "Autonomous" filter in the app.
The RT6 robotaxi is a purpose-built, all-electric vehicle designed specifically for driverless safety, featuring sliding doors and spacious seating for up to three passengers. Each car is packed with over 30 sophisticated sensors, including lidar and cameras, to ensure safe navigation, while live support agents remain on standby to assist riders in under a minute. This launch builds on the momentum of Dubai’s broader autonomous transport rollout, which has already facilitated over 4 million kilometers of travel and thousands of successful passenger trips, cementing the city's status as a primary hub for the future of self-driving mobility.
