Navigating Workplace Injury Protocols and Compensation in the UAE

Fri, Aug 21, 2026(3h ago)UAE

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation maintains a rigorous framework to ensure employee safety and provide clear guidance for reporting workplace injuries or occupational illnesses. When an incident occurs, employers are legally obligated to act swiftly: they must notify the appropriate medical authorities and local police stations, report the event to the Ministry within 48 hours, and fully fund the worker’s medical care. Furthermore, companies with 50 or more employees are required to implement comprehensive safety management systems. This includes maintaining detailed logs of all hazardous activities, conducting regular health screenings for at-risk staff, and providing thorough training to mitigate future risks.

When it comes to financial recovery, the UAE labor law provides robust protection for the workforce. Employers are responsible for covering all treatment costs until an employee either recovers or a permanent disability is confirmed. During this recovery phase, workers are entitled to receive their full salary for up to six months. In more severe cases involving death or long-term disability, compensation is calculated based on the employee's final basic wage. Following Ministerial Resolution No. 657 of 2022, payouts are determined by the disability percentage—up to 100% for total disability—multiplied by 24 months of the basic wage, ensuring a final settlement between Dh18,000 and Dh200,000.
