National University of Dubai Appoints Inaugural President to Lead Global Research Ambitions
The National University of Dubai (NUD) is officially entering its foundational stage, marking a significant milestone in the emirate’s push to become a premier global hub for higher education and high-impact research. Designed to align with Dubai’s ambitious Education 33 and Economic Agenda D33 strategies, the institution aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and industry needs. By fostering collaborations with government bodies and international partners, NUD intends to cultivate a knowledge-based economy that prepares graduates for the complexities of the future workforce.
To guide this vision, the university has appointed Victor Van der Chijs, a veteran leader with over thirty years of international experience, as its first President. Tasked with building the institution from the ground up, Van der Chijs will oversee the development of the university’s academic culture, research infrastructure, and strategic partnerships. His track record of driving innovation and interdisciplinary excellence—notably during his tenure at the University of Twente—will be instrumental in establishing NUD as a world-class academic environment that attracts top-tier global talent.
