Abu Dhabi Reopens Public Spaces Following Weekend Storms
Abu Dhabi has officially reopened its parks, beaches, and various outdoor recreational facilities after a brief shutdown caused by a bout of unstable weather. The city was hit by intense thunderstorms, heavy rain, and powerful winds late Friday, which led authorities to temporarily close these spaces as a safety precaution. Footage from the storm showed the severity of the conditions, with local vegetation bending under heavy gusts and lightning illuminating the evening sky.
While the sun has returned for now, weather experts at the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) warn that the current unsettled summer pattern is expected to persist through the weekend. Forecasters predict that convective clouds could develop in the eastern, southern, and western parts of the emirate, bringing further rainfall and gusty winds that may stir up dust and sand. Residents are advised to stay alert, as similar conditionsâincluding potential localized showers and winds reaching up to 40km/hâare likely to continue into Sunday.
