Abu Dhabi Healthcare Workers Craft Massive Floral Tribute to UAE President

Sun, Aug 23, 2026(45d ago)UAE

In a remarkable display of unity and artistry, over 1,000 healthcare workers from 35 different nations gathered at Burjeel Medical City to celebrate Onam by crafting a massive 250-square-meter floral carpet, known as a Pookalam. The centerpiece of this intricate design is a detailed portrait of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, accompanied by a powerful message honoring the nation's resilience and progress. The project, which took nearly 20 hours to complete, serves as a vibrant visual narrative of the UAE’s journey, featuring symbolic elements like the transition from traditional camel travel to the modern Etihad Rail to reflect the country’s forward-thinking spirit.

The initiative highlights the diverse, multicultural nature of the UAE’s medical sector, blending the traditional spirit of Onam—which centers on renewal and hope—with the daily dedication of healthcare professionals. By incorporating themes of compassion and healing alongside a sand pendulum representing the passage of time, the installation captures the essence of a nation that honors its heritage while relentlessly pursuing a brighter future. For the staff at Burjeel Medical City, the floral display is more than just a seasonal decoration; it is a profound expression of their collective confidence in the country's leadership and the enduring bond of a community that continues to grow stronger together.
