Sharjah Police Urge Drivers to Avoid Dangerous Last-Minute Swerving
Sharjah authorities have issued a stern warning to motorists following a alarming video that shows a vehicle careening off the road after a reckless, last-minute lane change. The footage captures a driver attempting to cut across multiple lanes to reach an exit, resulting in the car jumping onto a footpath and sustaining significant impact damage. Police are stressing that if a driver realizes they have missed their intended turn, the only safe course of action is to continue driving and take the next available exit rather than risking a dangerous maneuver in traffic.
This behavior is far from an isolated incident, as data from the UAEâs Ministry of Interior indicates that sudden swerving was the leading cause of traffic accidents in 2025, accounting for 905 reported crashes. These incidents are frequently driven by impatience or lack of focus behind the wheel. To curb these dangerous habits, the UAE enforces strict penalties under Federal Traffic Law, where offenders face a Dh1,000 fine and four black points on their license, with the potential for even harsher legal consequences in more severe cases.
