Dubai’s Breakthrough: Automated Tech Slashes Oil and Fat Testing Time to Two Minutes
Dubai Central Laboratory has revolutionized its food safety protocols by introducing an automated system that dramatically reduces the time required to test oils and fats from two hours to a mere two minutes. This innovation not only boosts efficiency but also increases the facility's daily testing capacity by an impressive 900 percent, jumping from six samples to 60. By eliminating the need for manual intervention and traditional chemical consumables, the new process supports sustainable laboratory practices while ensuring that results remain highly accurate and aligned with global safety standards.
According to Hind Mahmoud Ahmed, Director of the Dubai Central Laboratory Department, this technological advancement is a major win for consumer protection and regulatory oversight. By identifying potential quality concerns—such as early signs of oxidation—at record speeds, the laboratory can stay ahead of industry developments and ensure that products circulating in Dubai meet strict international specifications. This initiative is part of a broader push by Dubai Municipality to modernize its food safety infrastructure, following the recent launch of the UAE’s first dedicated virus-detection lab, further cementing the city’s commitment to high-tech, proactive public health monitoring.
