Sharjah Announces New Correctional Facility and Comprehensive Reform Law
The Ruler of Sharjah, Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, has officially launched a new correctional and rehabilitation institution aimed at modernizing the emirate’s approach to justice. Backed by a newly enacted law, this initiative moves beyond simple incarceration, focusing instead on the social, psychological, and cultural rehabilitation of inmates. By prioritizing the dignity and fundamental rights of those in custody, the government aims to create a secure environment that effectively balances public safety with successful reintegration into society.
Operating under the oversight of the Sharjah Police, the new facility will feature specialized sections for men, women, and juveniles to ensure appropriate separation and care. The law provides a rigorous framework for the institution’s operations, covering everything from daily management and healthcare to educational programming and visitation rights. With the flexibility to establish additional branches across the emirate, the administration is set to implement standardized inspection protocols and clear disciplinary guidelines, ensuring that the justice system remains both humane and highly organized.
