UAE Leaders Extend Congratulations to New Bangladesh President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir
The leadership of the United Arab Emirates has formally conveyed their congratulations to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir following his election as the 23rd President of Bangladesh. UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, alongside Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, issued official messages welcoming the veteran politician to his new role. Alamgir, a senior figure within the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, secured the presidency after winning 255 votes in a parliamentary election, stepping into the largely ceremonial office following the resignation of his predecessor, Mohammed Shahabuddin.
A seasoned statesman with a long history of public service, the 78-year-old Alamgir emerged as a prominent political figure during his years as an opposition leader. His political roots trace back to his time as a student activist during the 1969 uprising, and he has since held various ministerial portfolios, including agriculture and civil aviation. Having promised to dedicate his term to serving the people of Bangladesh, Alamgir assumes the presidency at a pivotal time for the nation following the political transition that followed the 2024 uprising. His appointment marks a significant chapter for the country of 170 million as it moves forward under new leadership.
