Sharjah Updates Traffic Routes for Etihad Rail Project

Wed, Aug 26, 2026(2h ago)UAE

Starting Wednesday, August 26, Sharjah’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is implementing significant traffic adjustments near University City and the Institutes Land area. These changes are part of the ongoing infrastructure improvements for the Etihad Rail Station Access Roads Project. While the authority is partially reopening the road linking Industrial Area 17 to University City—offering two lanes in each direction—commuters should prepare for a partial closure and a new traffic diversion heading from Industrial Area 17 toward Maliha Road. Motorists traveling to local landmarks, such as Nesto Hypermarket and Sharjah English School, are encouraged to utilize the clearly marked alternative routes to minimize travel delays.

These efforts are running concurrently with other maintenance work in the emirate, including a temporary closure near the Al Hazanah area. Between August 23 and August 28, the dual carriageway stretching from Saeed bin Obaid Al Jarwan Roundabout to Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan Bou Aliyan Roundabout is partially restricted to accommodate infrastructure development. Authorities are urging all drivers to exercise caution, adhere to posted directional signage, and stay updated on the latest traffic advisories to ensure a seamless commute during this period of upgrades.
