GEMS Education Gears Up for New Academic Year with 1,550 New Hires
GEMS Education has officially expanded its teaching workforce by welcoming 1,550 new educators, bringing the group’s total staff to over 10,000 across the UAE. During the annual Awareness Day event at Atlantis, The Palm, Founder and Chairman Sunny Varkey emphasized that while infrastructure and technology are vital, the quality of teachers remains the most significant investment for student success. The new recruits, representing 112 nationalities, will support a diverse range of curricula, from British and IB to US and Indian systems, as the network prepares for a high-demand academic year.
Beyond the classroom logistics, the incoming faculty are navigating a shifting landscape defined by rapid technological advancements and evolving student needs. Teachers are increasingly focused on integrating AI ethically while prioritizing pastoral care and student wellbeing. To support this, GEMS has ramped up its professional development and retention strategies, noting that teacher turnover is at an all-time low. By fostering internal growth and maintaining a balance between global talent and local expertise—including the upskilling of Emirati staff—the organization continues to solidify its commitment to shaping future-ready, compassionate leaders.
