Iran’s Attempt to Destabilize the UAE Backfired, Expert Asserts

Fri, Aug 28, 2026(4h ago)UAE

According to Fatmah Alzeyoudi, a researcher at the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research, Iran’s recent attempts to target the UAE were a strategic miscalculation that ultimately failed. By threatening critical civilian infrastructure—such as the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant and major economic hubs—Tehran aimed to discredit the UAE’s reputation as a beacon of regional development and prosperity. Alzeyoudi suggests that this aggression was largely a diversionary tactic, intended to distract from Iran’s own deepening economic instability by attacking a successful model of progress.

Despite these provocations, the UAE’s disciplined defense posture and growing military capabilities have proven that the nation is resilient against such hybrid threats. Rather than abandoning its commitment to regional stability, the UAE has doubled down on diversifying its strategic partnerships and reducing reliance on vulnerable transit points like the Strait of Hormuz. Alzeyoudi emphasizes that this period of conflict has underscored the urgent need for a more integrated, comprehensive security architecture among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states. While the UAE remains dedicated to diplomatic dialogue as a regional necessity, it is clear that future engagement must be grounded in credible security guarantees to ensure lasting deterrence against future aggression.
