Commuters traveling between Sharjah and Dubai are set to experience a smoother journey starting Sunday, August 30, as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) opens two new lanes on a vital stretch of Emirates Road. This five-kilometer expansion, heading toward Wadi Al Amardi, is strategically timed to alleviate the heavy traffic expected as the summer holidays conclude and UAE schools resume on August 31. By increasing the lane count from six to eight, the RTA expects to boost the road's capacity by 33 percent, effectively allowing 16,000 vehicles to pass per hour instead of the previous 12,000.

This infrastructure upgrade is designed to significantly reduce peak-hour congestion, with travel times projected to drop by up to 25 percent. Given that Emirates Road serves as a primary arterial route for more than 240,000 vehicles daily—including a high volume of heavy trucks and commuters moving between the Northern Emirates and Dubai—this expansion is a crucial step in managing the region's rapid urban growth. These efforts build upon a series of recent enhancements, such as improved access points at Al Awir 1 and refined connectivity with Al Amardi Street, all aimed at streamlining traffic flow through the area’s expanding residential and industrial corridors.
