Etihad Airways Makes History with First Emirati Female Training Captain

Sat, Aug 29, 2026(2h ago)UAE

In a landmark moment for the UAE’s aviation sector, Captain Huda Al Musallami has officially become the first Emirati woman to qualify as a training captain at Etihad Airways. This significant achievement, which was announced in celebration of Emirati Women’s Day, solidifies her role in shaping the next generation of pilots. With an impressive career spanning back to 2003 and over 10,000 flight hours under her belt—including experience on the Airbus A330, A340, and Boeing 777—Al Musallami is now tasked with mentoring aspiring aviators to meet the industry’s most rigorous safety and professional standards.

Reflecting on her career path, Al Musallami emphasized that her accomplishment is less about the title and more about creating a pathway for other women to follow in her footsteps. Her progression from a First Officer in 2014 to a Type Rating Instructor is a testament to her dedication, supported by her strong academic background in Aviation Management and Business. Etihad leadership, including Dr. Nadia Bastaki, praised this milestone as a reflection of the UAE’s vision to empower national talent. As Emirati women continue to make up a significant portion of the airline's workforce, Al Musallami’s success serves as an inspiring blueprint for those aiming to excel in the skies.
