Tragedy Strikes as Emirati Man Drowns During Mykonos Vacation

Sat, Aug 29, 2026(2h ago)UAE

A 35-year-old Emirati government employee, Bader Abdullah Mohammed Al Harmi, tragically lost his life while vacationing on the Greek island of Mykonos earlier this week. The Ras Al Khaimah resident had arrived in Greece with friends and decided to head to the beach to pass the time before their hotel check-in. According to reports, the group encountered powerful sea currents that swept them away. While his friends managed to survive the ordeal, Bader, an experienced swimmer, succumbed to exhaustion and cardiac arrest after struggling against the waves.

The community has been left heartbroken by the loss of the young man, who was a beloved son and brother. Following the repatriation of his body, funeral services were held at Al Diwan Mosque, and he was laid to rest at Al Hudaiba Cemetery in Ras Al Khaimah. In a touching display of affection and remembrance, friends and community members organized a charitable campaign to fund the construction of two mosques and a water well in his name. His family has since expressed their deep appreciation for the support provided by the UAE Embassy in Greece during this difficult time.
