Major Road Upgrade to Slash Dubai Commute Times

Sun, Aug 30, 2026(2h ago)UAE

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially launched the Al Meydan Street Development Project, a massive infrastructure initiative valued at Dh1.161 billion. By the time it concludes in 2028, the project will add 3.7km of bridges and 17km of new roads, significantly easing congestion for over half a million residents living in high-growth areas like Dubai Hills, Nad Al Sheba, and District One. Beyond just road expansion, the initiative integrates cycling tracks into the city’s broader network, ensuring a more sustainable and versatile transport system that caters to both motorists and cyclists.

The most transformative impact of this project will be a drastic improvement in travel efficiency. By establishing a robust alternative corridor to the congested Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and Al Khail roads, the RTA aims to boost north-south traffic capacity by 18 percent. Most notably, commuters traveling between Al Manama Street and Umm Suqeim Street can expect their journey time to plummet from 30 minutes down to just 10 minutes—a 66 percent reduction. By replacing outdated signalised junctions with high-capacity, multi-level interchanges, Dubai is moving closer to a more seamless and interconnected urban landscape that supports the city's ongoing economic and population surge.
