During his opening address at the Middle East Energy event, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Sohail Al Mazrouei, stressed that the global demand for electricity is poised to surge. He argued that sticking to the energy efficiency standards of the last decade is no longer sustainable, urging for a concerted effort to minimize transmission losses. According to the minister, the Gulf region must prioritize grid resilience and modernize its distribution systems to effectively handle the shift toward cleaner, more sustainable energy sources.

The UAE is making significant strides in this transition, with Al Mazrouei announcing a commitment to increase the nation's clean energy share to 35 percent by 2030-2031. Leveraging its geographical advantage, the country is doubling down on solar power, highlighted by the massive Al Dhafra Solar PV project. This facility, which features extensive battery storage capabilities, is set to provide a reliable, round-the-clock supply of renewable energy, underscoring the UAE’s strategic move toward long-term energy diversification and systemic stability.
