New Sea Turtle Nesting Sites Discovered Along Fujairah’s Coast
The Fujairah Environment Authority (FEA) has successfully identified three new sea turtle nesting locations along the emirate's coastline, specifically near the Al Fqait Protected Area and the shores of the Royal Beach Hotel in Dibba. To ensure the safety of these vulnerable sites during the peak nesting season, which spans from March to June, the FEA has worked closely with local hotel management to cordon off the areas and implement 24-hour monitoring. These measures are designed to keep beachgoers at a distance, preventing any human interference that could disrupt the critical hatching process.
Following these protection efforts, the region celebrated a successful milestone with the hatching of seven rare Hawksbill turtles, all of which were safely released back into the wild after undergoing health assessments by the Fujairah Research Centre. Beyond this discovery, the authority has been proactive in marine conservation, rescuing trapped turtles and rehabilitating injured ones in partnership with organizations like the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project. To support these ongoing environmental efforts, the FEA encourages residents to report any sightings of distressed turtles or nesting tracks by calling the dedicated toll-free hotlines at 800TURTLE (800 887853) or 800368.
