Dubai's Annual Accident-Free Day: A Fresh Start for Local Drivers

Thu, Sep 3, 2026(1h ago)UAE

As schools reopened in Dubai on August 31, many motorists took advantage of the city’s annual Accident-Free Day campaign, an initiative designed to improve road safety while offering a second chance to those with clean records. By signing a safety pledge and committing to strict traffic regulations—such as adhering to speed limits, avoiding phone usage, and maintaining proper following distances—participants were eligible to have four black points wiped from their driving history. For many, including local driver Reem Elsadig, the program served as a significant relief, turning the removal of penalties into a broader realization about the importance of mindful driving.

Beyond the immediate benefit of clearing their records, participants like Elsadig and Mohammed AlMazrouei noted that the initiative sparked a genuine reassessment of their habits behind the wheel. The campaign, timed to coincide with the increased traffic of the new academic year, encouraged drivers to exercise extra patience and caution around school zones and residential areas. Ultimately, the program reinforced the idea that responsible driving is about protecting all road users rather than just avoiding fines, proving that it is never too late for motorists to reflect on their past errors and adopt a more conscientious approach to safety.
