Over the first eight months of 2026, Dubai Police have confiscated 13,657 electric scooters as part of a rigorous enforcement drive aimed at curbing reckless behavior on the roads. Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, emphasized that these patrols are vital to preventing accidents and ensuring the safety of all commuters. The crackdown specifically targets dangerous habits, such as riding on roads with speed limits over 60km/h, traveling against the flow of traffic, navigating through pedestrian markets, or disregarding designated scooter paths.

To foster a safer urban environment, authorities are urging riders to strictly adhere to safety protocols, including wearing protective gear like helmets and reflective vests. Furthermore, scooters must be properly equipped with functional brakes and high-visibility front and rear lighting. Brigadier Bin Suwaidan reminded the public that complying with these regulations is not just a legal requirement but a collective responsibility, essential for reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities throughout the emirate.
