Khorfakkan Port Reaches New Milestone with Arrival of Mega-Vessel MSC MARIELLA
Khorfakkan Port, under the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, recently marked a significant achievement by hosting the MSC MARIELLA, one of the globeâs most massive container ships. Boasting a staggering capacity of 24,346 TEUs, the vessel spans 400 meters in length and over 61 meters in width. This successful docking underscores the portâs advanced operational capabilities and its readiness to handle the newest generation of ultra-large container ships, further solidifying its role as a vital link between major global markets including Asia, East Africa, and the Indian Subcontinent.
The success of the port is largely driven by the strategic vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, which has paved the way for robust infrastructure and economic growth across the Eastern Region. Managed by Gulftainer, the terminal features state-of-the-art facilities, including eighteen ship-to-shore cranes and deep-water berths, allowing for seamless 24/7 operations. With current expansion plans aimed at boosting annual capacity from 3.5 million to 10 million TEUs, Khorfakkan Port is firmly positioning itself as a premier maritime hub, bolstered by a network of logistics complexes that bridge the gap between regional ports and inland trade routes.
