Easing the Daily Commute: New Al Ittihad Road Lane Aims to Slash Traffic Delays

Fri, Sep 4, 2026(21h ago)UAE

Commuters traveling between Dubai and Sharjah can look forward to a much smoother journey through the Al Qiyadah Intersection. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially unveiled a series of strategic upgrades, headlined by the addition of a brand-new left-turn lane on Al Ittihad Road. By repurposing existing median space and parallel parking areas, this new lane specifically improves the flow of traffic heading toward Abu Hail and Salah Al Din Streets. With the integration of adjusted traffic signal timings, officials are confident that motorists will experience a noticeable reduction in peak-hour waiting times, with delays expected to drop by up to 15 percent.

These enhancements are part of a broader RTA initiative to modernize Dubai’s infrastructure in response to the city’s rising population and vehicle volume. Beyond the new lane, the project included extensive repaving, the installation of concrete barriers, and the relocation of some parking facilities to better optimize the local road network. Furthermore, the RTA has added new parking spots along Abu Hail Street and installed upgraded lighting to ensure better utility of the area. These comprehensive improvements are designed not only to alleviate current congestion at one of the city's most critical transit hubs but also to ensure the road network remains resilient as future traffic demand continues to climb.
