New Permit Rules for Residential Car Park Shades in Abu Dhabi
The Abu Dhabi City Municipality has officially introduced a new regulatory framework for residents looking to install car park shades outside their property boundaries. Under the "Our Home Is Our Responsibility" campaign, homeowners must now apply for a permit via the TAMM platform using their UAE Pass. The initial permit fee is set at Dh1,000, with an annual renewal cost of Dh200. Notably, residents who already possess a comprehensive permit for external works under the city's broader land regulations are exempt from this specific fee, as the installation is already covered by their existing documentation.
To ensure uniformity and safety, the Department of Municipalities and Transport has established strict technical guidelines for these structures. Car park shades must be limited to a single-car size (3 by 6 meters) and adhere to specific height requirements, ranging from 2.5 to 4.5 meters. Owners are required to use high-quality materials, avoiding temporary options like zinc sheeting or untreated wood, and must select light, neutral colors that complement their homeâs aesthetic. Furthermore, these shades must not obstruct public footpaths, vehicle traffic, or emergency access routes. Owners are also reminded that these structures are strictly for personal residential use; renting them out is prohibited, and the municipality retains the right to order their removal at the owner's expense if they fall out of compliance.
