Abu Dhabi Unveils Massive Dh300 Billion Investment in Energy and Water Security

Tue, Sep 8, 2026(1h ago)UAE

During the Hili Forum in Abu Dhabi, officials emphasized that the Gulf region is choosing to double down on development despite the uncertainty caused by recent regional conflicts. A key highlight of this strategy is a massive commitment from Abu Dhabi, with plans to invest over Dh300 billion into its power and water infrastructure over the coming decades. Abdulaziz Al Obaidli, Director General of Regulatory Affairs at the UAE’s Department of Energy, noted that true energy security is no longer just about production capacity; it is about building resilient systems that can withstand disruption through integrated digital, storage, and grid networks.

This proactive approach has positioned the UAE as a uniquely attractive hub for global tech giants, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence. Unlike many Western nations where grid connectivity can stall projects for years, the UAE is prioritizing power infrastructure ahead of demand, a move that has already drawn major partnerships with companies like OpenAI and Oracle. As international experts and economists pointed out during the forum, this ability to maintain stability and reliability is cementing the Gulf's role as a cornerstone of the global economy, moving far beyond its traditional identity as a primary energy exporter.
