Pakistan Captain Fatima Sana Fined Following Altercation with Shafali Verma

Tue, Sep 8, 2026(1h ago)UAE

Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana has been penalized for her conduct during the recent Women’s Asia Cup clash against India in Dubai. The ICC officially docked 10 percent of her match fee after she was found in violation of Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct. The incident occurred during the second over of India's innings when, after dismissing opener Shafali Verma, Sana made an aggressive gesture toward the departing batter, an action deemed capable of inciting a hostile reaction.

In addition to the fine, Sana has been handed one demerit point, bringing her total to two over the last two years. Having previously been sanctioned during a T20I series against Ireland in 2025, she now sits halfway to a potential suspension. Sana admitted to the breach and accepted the penalty proposed by match referee Supriya Rani Das, avoiding the need for a formal hearing. While this incident marks a disciplinary setback for the Pakistani skipper, she will remain eligible for upcoming matches, though she must exercise more caution to avoid reaching the four-demerit-point threshold that would trigger a ban.
