PlayStation to Switch UAE Store to Dirhams: What You Need to Know
PlayStation is set to transition its storefront currency in the UAE from the US dollar to the Emirati dirham, allowing local users to view all pricing and transaction receipts in their home currency. This update is part of a broader shift that also includes Saudi Arabia, where prices will soon be displayed in riyals. According to official notifications sent to account holders, no manual action is required from users to facilitate this change, as the system will automatically handle the conversion.
To accommodate this transition, PlayStation will undergo a mandatory maintenance period from October 5 to October 8. During these three days, all payment services and wallet top-up functions will be completely suspended for both UAE and Saudi Arabian users, meaning credit cards, debit cards, and other payment methods will be unavailable. Additionally, the company noted that the PlayStation 3 store will stop accepting payments starting October 5, though it remains unclear how this will impact existing content or previous purchases for legacy console owners.
