UAE-Developed Smelting Tech Set to Boost India’s Aluminium Production

Wed, Sep 9, 2026(47m ago)UAE

In a significant move for industrial cooperation, the National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO) of India has partnered with the UAE’s Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) to overhaul its Angul smelter in Odisha. By integrating EGA’s proprietary DX+ Ultra technology, NALCO aims to significantly boost its output, adding 500,000 tonnes of annual capacity and effectively doubling its current production by 2030. This brownfield expansion, secured through a competitive bidding process, solidifies EGA’s position as a leading global technology provider for the smelting industry.

Beyond merely licensing the technology, EGA will provide comprehensive technical oversight and training for the Indian workforce to ensure the smooth operation of these advanced reduction cells. This collaboration highlights the UAE’s growing influence in the global manufacturing sector, building on three decades of domestic innovation. For the UAE, this marks another successful export of its homegrown expertise, further establishing aluminium as a vital component of the nation's economy outside of the oil and gas sector.
