UAE Court Orders Scammers to Refund Victim in Phishing Fraud Case
An Al Ain court has ruled against two individuals who orchestrated an online scam by creating a deceptive mobile recharge website. The victim, who believed he was using a legitimate service to top up his phone, unknowingly fell for the ruse and lost nearly Dh15,000 during an electronic transaction. Upon discovering the fraud, the victim initiated a civil lawsuit to recover his funds and seek damages for the significant distress caused by the incident.
The court sided with the plaintiff, confirming that the defendants had illicitly acquired his money through fraudulent practices. Consequently, the pair has been ordered to reimburse the full amount stolen, along with an additional Dh3,000 in compensation for the financial and emotional toll. This case serves as a stern reminder of the ongoing threat posed by phishing sites, prompting authorities and cybersecurity experts to advise residents to exclusively use official applications and verified portals to avoid falling victim to similar digital crimes.
