The iconic Al Taawun Roundabout in Sharjah is set for a major transformation, with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) revealing a fresh design just in time for its scheduled reopening on November 4. This date coincides with the launch of the Sharjah International Book Fair, marking a significant milestone for local commuters who have long endured grueling traffic delays. While the surface-level changes are grabbing headlines, the most anticipated development remains the underground Al Taawun Tunnel, which aims to provide a much-needed relief for motorists traveling between Sharjah and Dubai.

Designed to handle an impressive 4,200 vehicles per hour in each direction, the new three-lane tunnel is expected to drastically reduce the 20-minute bottlenecks that have plagued the area during rush hours. Although the project is currently in progress, authorities have confirmed that the classic roundabout monument, which was temporarily removed to facilitate construction, will eventually be restored to its original site once the entire infrastructure project concludes in February 2027. This initiative not only promises a smoother commute but also enhances access to the Expo Centre Sharjah, setting the stage for a more efficient transport corridor in the future.
