A talented trio of third-year Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics students from Middlesex University Dubai recently secured top honors at the Dubai Electronic Security Centre’s competition held during GISEC Global 2026. Facing off against hundreds of participants from across the UAE, the team—comprised of Aiman Waheed, Mary Camille Bognot, and Nikoloz Khorkheli—developed an innovative project titled "The Model Is The Leak." Their system addresses a critical healthcare challenge: how to enable hospitals to share insights from AI models without compromising the privacy of sensitive patient records. By using simulated hospitals to train AI models locally, the team demonstrated that healthcare institutions can collaborate on medical breakthroughs without ever exposing the underlying personal data of their patients.

The students focused on achieving a delicate balance between rigorous security and model performance, noting that their privacy protections resulted in less than a one percent loss in diagnostic accuracy. Beyond the technical achievement, the team emphasized that traditional anonymization methods, such as simply removing names from datasets, are no longer sufficient against modern cyber threats. By clearly dividing their roles—with Aiman focusing on regulatory design, Nikoloz handling the AI framework and security testing, and Mary analyzing the mathematical trade-offs—the group proved that advanced technical safeguards are essential to building a trustworthy healthcare network. Their success not only highlights the growing importance of AI ethics in medicine but also underscores the vital need for future professionals to master both offensive security tactics and complex data privacy regulations.
